Mercedes in Caye Caulker
Mercedes is a youth activist from Caye Caulker, Belize. It was a blessing to meet this bright young woman. She is the president of the Caye Caulker Environmental Club and recently received the Environmental Youth Award of Belize. She is the daughter of a local fisherman and we were blown away by her knowledge of the ocean and local ecosystems. We also enjoyed listening to her stories of shark encounters and underwater cave diving expeditions. At 13 years old, she is a promising glimpse of the future.
